For Kids Dealing With Parent's Cancer

Camp Kesem is a national organization that is dedicated to mobilizing college students, with support from national leadership, to provide services to children impacted by a parent’s cancer. Kesem UVA will offer its annual camp in summer 2023 to campers from the area. Our camp is offered free of charge, and is open to any6-18 year old who has, or has had ,a parent or primary caregiver with cancer. We also offer other free programming throughout the year, including our upcoming Friends + Family Day which is open to current families, new families and community supporters. It will be held on November 6 and it offers an opportunity for some fun and a great way to connect with other families impacted by cancer. Our programs are designed to allow children the opportunity to find support, have fun, and feel safe, loved, and respected. We strive to deliver a transformative and inclusive experience to all families, and to that end we provide support with things like transportation, supplies for camp, and linguistically-responsive communication with families.

From 8-year-olds to 18-year-olds, kids have made friends who understood what they were going through at camp. Camp Kesem also has trained mental health professionals and nurses as well as a huge team of counselors who all care a whoooole lot about giving these kids an opportunity to just be kids, but also to feel their feelings with people who understand.
